Top 3 Concerns

Our organizations have spent the past year talking with people in the region about possible LNG development. What are the pros? What are the concerns? We’ve narrowed this down to three key facts about LNG:

  1. Petronas’ LNG proposal at Lelu Island would destroy critical Skeena salmon habitat. This project would impact every community that depends on Skeena salmon 

  2. Pollution in the Kitimat/Terrace airshed threatens human health and could cause acid rain

  3. Impacts to our communities – a rush of temporary works, housing pressure, and feeding the boom and bust cycle – does not create resilient communities

Pollution from LNG facilities would increase harmful emissions in the Kitimat/Terrace airshed. This could cause acid rain and would result in serious health problems for people living in the region
